Lane Thomasson has practiced law in Southwest Colorado since she moved to the Montrose/Ouray area in 2015. She began her career as a deputy district attorney for the 7th Judicial District focusing on domestic violence and sex crimes. In 2017, she began working as an assistant county attorney for Montrose County and was promoted to senior assistant county attorney in 2020. During her time with Montrose County, she represented the County in child support enforcement, dependency and neglect matters, civil litigation, and advising the County on a variety of legal issues.  In 2021, Ms. Thomasson began a position as an associate for the Ouray based law firm, Hockersmith & Whitmore, where she represented clients throughout Ouray County and the surrounding areas in complex civil litigation, real estate, and contract law. 

Ms. Thomasson has acquired extensive experience in all matters related to real property litigation, general civil litigation, easements, land use, local government law, and drafting and negotiating contracts. She intentionally limits the number of clients she represents to ensure each client receives the highest level service and care. 

Ms. Thomasson graduated from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law where she was senior editor of the Denver University Law Review and a member of the prestigious National Trial Team. She received her B.A. in English Literature at Smith College in 2006 and M.A. in International Peace and Security at King’s College London in 2007.

When not in the office, you will likely find Ms. Thomasson backcountry skiing, mountain biking, or rock climbing with her partner, Mark, and their dog, Hachi.
